I Got Ghonorrhea on the Internet

Sex and STD's are rampant among teenagers and the problem is skyrocketing after the election of Barack "kids will do it anyway" Obama.

With the message that they are EXPECTED to have sex hammered home by politicians,  in school, in the news, in music videos and on TV, is it any wonder that kids are taking adults up on their word and DOING IT?  If you mention "abstinence" in mixed company, you can expect to see eyes rolling and hear scornful "tsk tsk" sounds from those who think that MTV has their childrens' best interests at heart when videos implore them to behave like animals in heat. The suggestion that teaching morals might have an impact on teen sexuality is absurd in their eyes.

So when the totally expected happens and teens become pregnant, get STD's and have emotional crises when society forces into sexual activity, the eye rollers and tsk tskers will come up with something... ANYTHING to pin the blame on, except the culprit: promiscuity.

In England they are blaming Facebook for the rise in STD's. I've never heard of an STD getting transmitted through a modem, keyboard, or mouse, but hey... I'm not a doctor. Maybe it's true. However, I strongly suspect that the actual proximate cause of the rise in STD's among teens in England is.... teens having promiscuous sex. No, it's not dancing, rock and roll music, the radio, cars, telephones, or the internet, although they have all been blamed for teenage promiscuity at one time or another.

I know.. I know... I'm not a cosmopolitan elitist academic. My ideas aren't clarified and refined by recreational drug use and long sessions at Starbucks reading the New York Times and discussing the brilliance of Noam Chomsky and Hugo Chavez. But I'm thinking in my knuckle-dragging way that endorsing teen sex as inevitable and natural might lead to... more teen sex. Call me a rube. I know.... And I won't even SUGGEST that maybe teaching morality and abstinence might reduce those numbers... I don't want to strain all those eyeballs by forcing them to roll around in their sockets.
